Community engagement is crucially important to democracy. Local journalism plays a key role, but it is declining. By actively connecting local communities, local news outlets enable citizens to gain insights into their needs and concerns—but they are vanishing. Chris believes that effective community engagement not only strengthens trust between journalists and the public but also enhances the quality of reporting by grounding it in the realities faced by the community. Through initiatives that encourage dialogue and collaboration, he urges citizens to build a more informed and engaged citizenry, ultimately contributing to a healthier democracy.
